Amarnath Yatra:

Amarnath the holy place of Hindus in located in Jammu and Kashmir the northern most state of India. This is a cave shrine of Lord Shiva and the pilgrimage to this shrine is planned well and it coincides with Sravana Pournima. The cave is known for the formation of the ice pillar which is known as Shivalingam it is also popularly known as ICELINGAM. This is a stiff faith and conviction among the Hindus that the person if one visits this shrine of Lord Shiva will not get re-birth. Shiva is considered to be a living God. Rig-Veda the holy and the most ancient book in India literature also talks about the presence of Lord Shiva in its hymns. The existence of Lord Shiva is also testified by Vedic myths, sacrament and astronomy since ages together. But Lord Shiva is the demolisher, the mendicant cannot be defined: he is considered to be the guardian of the absolute, the great yogi in Indian mythology. His dealings are the subject of the myths in which his nature lives.

The Hindu Mythology says that Lord Shiva took Goddess Parvati to a cave to tell her about the secret of immortality, for which he searched for an isolated place and thus went inside a cave which is now known as the cave of Amarnath. The secret of immortality was overheard by a pair of mating dove and thus, they are considered to take birth again and again. This cave thus became the everlasting home to the pair of pigeons. Pilgrims have reported seeing pair of pigeons while trekking the towards the cave.

There is also another legend associated with it according to an old tale, once a Muslim shepherd Buta Malik was given a bag of coal by a monk. Buta Malik on reaching his abode found the sack to be full of gold. Buta Malik then ran back to search for the sadhu, but on the place where they met there was a cave, and this spot thus became a holy place. Amarnath is positioned in a narrow gorge, and is 46 Kms from Pahalgam and 145 Kms from Srinagar.

Pilgrims believe that a visit to the Amarnath is like visiting heaven and it is a gratifying experience for those who have immense faith. The pilgrims to Amarnath need to go well equipped as the temperature is quiet low. The roads are not well developed but the government makes arrangements for the people.
