Ali Larter Interview for Resident Evil: Afterlife - Celebrity Interviews

Ali Larter

"Still Our Hottest Hero"

However, Larter proved herself quickly adept with roles in films such as The House On Haunted Hill, the first two Final Destination films, Legally Blonde, and Obsessed. Her most successful role to date was as Niki Sanders and later her identical twin sister Tracy Strauss on the NBC science-fiction drama Heroes.

Now the 34 year-old hopes to increase her rising star in the world of film with a return as Claire Redfield in the latest 3D Resident Evil entry, Afterlife. However, Ali says she's never played the original popular video games the successful film franchise is based on.Ali Larter Interview for Resident Evil: Afterlife - Celebrity Interviews

"You know, I don't have that special part of your brain needed to play those games," she admits, "I'm in awe of you guys because I can't do it. I'd watch Top Chef. That's what I'd do. I mean, what's so great about this film is it is so closely correlated to it and we pulled a lot of things directly from the video game like my outfit."

"There's a huge sequence between me and Chris and Wesker that's like beat-by-beat exactly the same," Larter adds, "He'd stop the DVD just to make sure when we choreographed it, it was exactly the same, The Axe Man in that sequence, so it was fun to have things that are very similar to it."

However, Larter says one thing her brain has not been wired for is getting scared.

"It's hard to spook me, but The Axe Man was really cool," she says, "I think he was like a really big wrestler in Canada that came up and played him in the movie. He was like 7 foot and huge, so it's like when he would swing that axe, you'd better get out of the way. You'd better make sure you're on your mark or else, you're going to be in trouble, so that was fun and the gory and the zombies and all that. Pretty cool."

Ali adds that one thing her brain is wired for is fight training.

"[Milla Jovovich and I] did [fight training] and we both love doing it," Larter says, "We both love doing stunts and being a part of the action. We're not people that want to go home. We stay on set later. We want to rehearse. We want to work with the stunt coordinator. I think that's maybe part of the fun of watching it."

"You know we want to be there," she continues, "You know we're not just phoning it in, like we love it. It's fun. One of the big things for me is also the fans of this franchise and I kind of came into this world with Final Destinationand then Heroes and the loyalty of the fans is something that gets you through shitty long days when you're shooting up in the cold and you're hungry and you're just like, ugh, you're covered in dirt and grime and all you want is a shower. But you know it's going to look kick-ass. You know it's going to look so good. You just keep doing it."

However, Larter says she was a little miffed that she didn't get to do all of the stunt sequences she prepared to do.

"There was a couple of flips that I had to do that I rehearsed that I didn't get to do, like, Wait! You already shot that?!'" Ali says, "But they didn't want to let me to do it. So you just do the best you can and there's an insurance level when it's like, if I break my arm, production's shut down so you do what you can."

Ali says being physical is natural for her.

"I run and for me, I'm always active," Larter says, "I play tennis. I hike my dogs all the time, so, for me, I'm someone. I'm a doer and I've played sports all my whole life, so it's just something that in a weird way kind of comes naturally to me. I bet my husband kind of wishes I wasn't so kick-ass all the time. It's in me a little bit. I'm a bit of a fighter and a bit of a scrapper, so it comes naturally."

Larter was asked if she ever got scrappy with co-star Milla Jovovich.

"I get a little bit, but she's amazing," she says of her, "I love working with her. I just think that she's a talent. Her and Paul [W. S. Anderson] are the heart and soul of this franchise and I'm just so thrilled that they wanted to bring me back."

One cast member this time around that Ali said added to the excitement was Prison Break star Wentworth Miller, who plays Claire's brother Chris in the film.

"It was really exciting," she says, "I was thrilled that he was cast. I think he's such a talented actor and I think that he brings a lot to the franchise. I love the fact that they introduce this family dynamic because this is Resident Evil, it's not going to get mushy-gushy, Oh, my God, my long-lost brother!'"

"But at the same time, I think it's interesting to crack the veneer," Larter adds, "Claire is so tough and it's just such a shell around her and to see her lose different parts of her memory and to try and work that out and figure out who you can trust. And it's the end of the world, what do you really care about at the moment? It's human contact and human relationships and that's something that we try to explore a little bit."

Larter also mentions how the brother/sister dynamic of Claire and Chris adds dimensions to what is now the fourth film in the ongoing Resident Evil story.

"I think that it was from the video game, so it was true to it and I think it's interesting to bring in the family dynamic, I really do," Ali believes, "Claire's the everyman. She's the one in the movie that you can relate to. She doesn't have any special powers. She's the one that is doing whatever she has to do to survive, so to introduce that and how you would feel if you thought you had no family and to realize that someone's alive. I think a lot of people can relate to that. A lot of people have family, so it's interesting."Ali Larter Interview for Resident Evil: Afterlife - Celebrity Interviews

Ali was asked whether she believed there will be a fifth Resident Evil film in the works.

"I don't know," Larter replies, "Some people say yes and some people say no. I think it's truly in the... Read the complete interview here Celebrity Interviews
