The Algarve combines 16 Municipalities within an area of some 5,412 square kilometres, with some 410,000 permanent residents of one of Europe's richest mixtures of nationalities.
The Gharb Al-Andalus, which means the West of Al-Andalus, is known as simply Al-Gharb, correctly pronounced and spelt as Al-gharb, which in Arabic means 'the West', named by the Moors of Iberia to the modern region of Algarve, (Portuguese pronunciation), which in fact extends to most of Portugal.
Thus, with such an ancient historical and fascinating background, the architecture of all Algarve Villas must, to some extent, reflect their history in their many different ways.
Algarve coincides with the Faro district, with its administrative centre in the city of Faro, and sharing the same international Faro/Algarve Airport.
This makes for a convenient launching platform, for visits to either of the two regions.
However, specifically regarding the Algarve Villas, then in the Portuguese parish of Guia, which is only 5 Km away from the coast of Guia, and in the municipality of Albufeira, Algarve, there are many self catering Algarve Villas.
Guia is famous for its 'piri-piri' chili cuisine, which is served in its many restaurants, and who knows, a lucky Algarve Villa holiday resident may well have the Pripri plants, (Piri-piri is the correct spelling in Portuguese) in their Algarve Villa vineyard/gardens, but:
Be careful when you experiment, with your chicken and fish dishes, because it is not named the 'African Devil', or 'African Birds Eye', or 'African red devil' for nothing!
