Brought to life by John Bakewell Jr. and Arthur Brown Jr., the Pasadena City Hall is an architectural giant that belongs to the Baroque period. This intimidating structure stands tall, wide and is also crowned with a massive dome. Located in Garfield Avenue in Pasadena, this building is one of great historical significance to the people of this area. This 170,000 square foot structure stands at a proud 6 storey high and is an iconic trademark of the city that it calls home.
Although the people of Pasadena saw that a civic centre was a need of the community in 1923 and sufficient funding was passed, it was completed and handed over to the public on the 27th of December in 1927. Listed on the National register of Historic Places as a significant architectural achievement of interest, Pasadena City Hall has been categorized as homogeneous style building.
Adopting the creative styles of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio who studied the intricate works of the great Roman architect called Vitruvius, the creators of this marvelous building made sure that the Pasadena City Hall was rich in artistic beauty as well. The gorgeous fountain that sits at the center of the courtyard bears testament to the artistic talents of its creators. In the late 19th century the Pasadena City Hall had to undergo significant structural changes to meet city building standards in case of seismic activity in the area.
