A Closer Look At The Dangers Of Using Asbestos
Unfortunately, there are many health threats that can linger from the past
. For example, there were medications that were sold in drug stores and pharmacies that were later withdrawn from the shelves because of the later discovery of them being a serious health threat. Another well known example is the use of asbestos to insulate buildings all over the country. The element is known to cause serious health problems because of breathing in the tiny particles that were released into the air. Breathing and lung problems of all kinds are directly related to the exposure to the insulation commonly used in older buildings.
This type of insulation was used quite often in buildings of all kinds. Churches, schools, businesses and even homes were insulated with the dangerous element. At the time it was used, it did not seem to pose a problem. It took at least 15 years for doctors to realize that those that have inhaled the insulation on a regular basis are in grave danger.
The health threat was often compared to smoking tobacco. The more the person is exposed to the element, the worse the condition got. Although there were no signs of danger at the time of being in the dwelling, the insulation was later determined to be the cause of breathing and lung problems in many Americans.
Most of the people that lived or worked in dwellings that have been insulated with the element showed signs of health problems 15-30 years after being exposed. It caused many of those people have breathing and lung problems that could potentially be life threatening.
Clearing the insulation out of the buildings posed another problem in itself. Because the danger is present when the element is disturbed, it made clean up a dangerous task. Many safety precautions were taken to protect those that were doing the clean up as well as those that reside in the area.
Because the insulation was mainly used in ceiling tiles, around plumbing and under floors, it was fairly easy to clean up. If a building had a lot of asbestos used as insulation, it was to be destroyed, it had to taken very seriously, for the safety of those that were doing the clean up and for those that lived in the area.
The health treats of exposure is a very serious situation. Because the medical conditions caused by the element are very hard to detect, people that have been exposed may not be diagnosed for 15-30 years after being exposed. This allows the disease or cancer to manifest into a medical condition that is very hard to control and can often never be cured. It is a deadly situation that many have because of the used of asbestos in their homes and schools.
Being exposed and breathing in the element used for insulation in the past is a very serious medical problem. If you have any symptoms of lung disease, it is suggested that you get medical attention immediately. It is only when someone is diagnosed with a disease that doctors can determine if it is because of exposure to the dangerous type of insulation.
