A City Break In Barcelona Ultimate Guide To Things To Do

Barcelona is the perfect city break destination

. The Catalonian city mesmerises with the bustling street life of la Rambla, Barcelona is a fantastic world class destination from the abstract beauty of Picasso, and Gaudi's off the wall designs.

To fit in as much as possible during your trip, utilise the Barcelona City Hop-on Hop-off Tour, which has three different tour routes to explore the city. With over 44 stops to choose from you can jump on and off all around the city and see the major sights aboard an open-top double-decker bus.

Gaudi

The city's favourite son, Antoni Gaudi, is the single greatest influence on Barcelona's urban landscape. His signature is everywhere. Awe-inspiring and unique architectural feats combine the shapes and forms of organic life with the strict patterns of mathematics and geometry. Truly breathtaking and inspirational. Two of Gaudi's most famous buildings lie within just blocks of each other; the Casa Batilo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera) are both located on Passeig de Gracia. Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera) is an apartment complex designed by Gaudi. The building is famous for having absolutely no straight lines, reliant on its abstract form - a place that really must be seen to be believed. Any mention of the great man is not complete without mentioning perhaps his most famous building of all; La Sagrada Familia.A City Break In Barcelona Ultimate Guide To Things To Do

Food

Visitors to the city simply cannot fail to appreciate the area's culinary delights. The restaurant consistently named as the finest in the world - Adrian Ferra's El Buli - is located around two hours drive up the coast. Barcelona itself has many eateries that can rightly boast world class exceptional food and drink of both local and international cuisine.

Picasso

The Picasso Museum unravels the genius of the young artist through the more than 3,800 works that make up the permanent collection here. Furthermore, the building, opened in 1963, reveals his close relationship with Barcelona - that was shaped in his adolescence and youth - and continued until his death in 1973, aged 91.

Music Palace

If you have your fill of art, architecture and fabulous food then the Music Palace is the place to visit. The Palau Musica Catalana, opened in 1908, is a concert hall designed by the architect Muntaner. The building is the central headquarters of 'Orfeó Catala', founded in 1891 to support Catalan music and culture. Inside, sculptures represent, on one side, the 'Ride of Walkiries' and, on the other, the figure of Beethoven. Daily guided tours are available.
