The Packer defense is vastly underrated - they had the #1 rated NFL run defense and the #5 pass defense. Contrast that to the Eagles #9 rush defense and #17 pass defense - and you can see the Packers were superior on both sides of the ball. Here's another little known NFL stat from 2009 - Green Bay led the NFL football league in picks. In the NFL football teams can change dramatically from year to year; however, the young Packers who made the playoffs last year are widely considered to be on the upswing, while the Eagles are looking to recapture playoff glory. The Eagles feature an offense that primarily likes to throw the football, with a young quarterback getting the nod on opening day against a pass defense that had more picks than any other team in the NFL last year.... We like Green Bay as a week one B-rated NFL football pick to outright win!

Another NFL opening day early football pick that looks interesting is the Baltimore Ravens / NY Jets UNDER, at 37.5 - these are two dynamic defenses - where are the points going to come from? Both teams love to run the football, and play conservative field position games. Both squads were in the upper half of the league in most categories of defense - including pick-offs, you can bet the coaches will feature a run based attack on opening day, which shortens football games and leads to fewer scoring opportunities. This line will probably go down by kick-off, so if you want to make an early NFL pick on a total now is the time to get great value at this opening line.
