Three Ways to Bring Tradition Back Into the Holidays
Share: The holiday season is drawing near and it is time to start thinking about how you and your family will celebrate this year
. It seems that these days it is easy to lose sight of what the holidays are all about because we have so many other things to think about. Concern over losing jobs, concern about spending so much money during the holidays, concern about making up bills in the beginning of the year, many time these thoughts can cloud our senses and take away from the true enjoyment that we are supposed to get out of the holiday season. That is not to say that there is not still hope though. This year you can make a commitment to bring back a little bit of that holiday tradition into your life. Doing just a few things differently this year will make all the difference in how you enjoy the holiday season.
The first way to bring back holiday tradition is one of my favorites. Nothing makes it feel more like Christmas than going to a tree farm and cutting down your own Christmas tree. Doing this also saves you a little money as the trees you buy in a store are often much more expensive. Many tree farms offer such goodies as hot chocolate and fried dough as well so you can really get into the spirit. In many cases you don't even have to bring your own saw. You just show up, search for the tree you want, and cut it down. The tree farm will tie the tree up and you will be on your way. See how delighted your family is to find that one tree that stands out and everybody agrees on and you will not be able to help but feel the holiday spirit.
The next thing to help make the holiday feel traditional is to really decorate the room that you use most in the house which will likely be either the living room or the kitchen. Purchase some old fashioned decorations and really go all out. Evergreen garland, silver and gold bells, and red felt ribbons are all decorations that feel old world and traditional. You will love coming home to the feeling of Christmas everyday and so will your family.
Another way to bring back tradition is to keep some of the traditional goodies of Christmas around the house. Purchase an old fashioned nutcracker and keep a bowl of mixed nuts out, fill a bowl with a few pomegranates, and keep out a jar of cinnamon sticks to use in tea or cocoa. If there is one thing that can make it feel like the holidays it is the goodies that go with the season.
Share: There is nothing like the feeling of a good old fashioned holiday and it is not that hard to make it happen. Make your Christmas more traditional this year and it will definitely be a holiday to remember. You may even start a tradition to make the holidays traditional every year.
