Maui is a very well known and popular destination for people visiting the Hawaiian islands

. Here are some suggestions for things to do on Maui to help make your visit truly memorable.

1. Participate in a Luau. If you've never enjoyed or experienced a luau before, then you in for a real treat. A number of hotels on Maui organize luaus on the beach.

They feature authentic Hawaiian foods such as kalua pig. This dish is cooked in a unique clay oven. Or try poi or haupia which is a delicious coconut pudding. Add to this an abundant buffet of some more familiar foods.

And this experience wouldn't be complete without authentic Hawaiian music, hula dancers, and exciting fire dancing. You'll find some of the best authentic luaus at Lahaina set at open air grounds right next to the ocean.

2. Biking. Maui is a great place to do some biking. There are plenty of places to rent bikes and you'll find a great deal to see. The island has plenty of well marked routes and there is always someone to help you.

You can bike from end of the island to the other. Much of the route is right along the shore so you'll be certain to have a gorgeous and memorable ride.

3. Dive. If you are a scuba diver, you'll find that Maui has some of the best spots around. There are also some excellent tour operators to take you to them and arrange for the equipment.

A number of interesting spots include a partially submerged volcanic crater near Wailea as well as several marine conservation areas at Honolua Bay and another at Molokini.

4. Shop. You'll find plenty of great spots to shop for all kinds of interesting items here. There are all kinds of malls, marketplaces, and boutiques. Many stores carry products which are unique to Hawaii.

This can include bowls and goods made from native woods or hats woen from lau hala. Other interesting products include unique jewelry, glass work, and many types of art work.

If you love to shop, you'll find that Lahaina is the place for you. And be sure to check out the weekly swap meets held in Kahului weekly as well as many other craft fairs and farmer's markets held across the island regularly.
