In total, the process usually only takes between one and two hours.
Take Home Whitening
Another popular option that dentists use is to provide customized take home whitening kits to their patients. This takes longer than an in office procedure, but is generally cheaper to complete. To fit you with your customized whitening trays, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and get the trays constructed at a dental lab. Once you have gotten the trays and are at home, you will apply whitening gel to them and wear them on your teeth for approximately one hour. After repeating this process everyday for about two weeks, your teeth will have become much whiter.
Over The Counter Whitening Products
At your local drug store, you will see a variety of whitening gels, strips and toothpastes. Although these products are readily available and do not cost very much, they generally do not contain as much hydrogen peroxide as dentist-approved methods. In addition, they are not specifically designed for your mouth so they cannot offer the same level of results as dentist-approved methods. However, if you are not looking to spend very much money or are only looking for some moderate whitening, this could be the best option for you.
