Turn Your Christmas Card into a Gift

Turn Your Christmas Card into a Gift

As the Christmas season approaches each year, you know you always have some people on your gift list who are difficult to shop for

. While you prefer to buy them something that they could use, it is getting harder each year. This must be true for lots of people, which could explain the huge increase in the sale of gift cards over the past few years. Of course, you could take the easy way out and give cash. If you do opt to give a gift card or cash, you will find that either can be difficult to wrap. A really great way to present such a gift is inside Christmas cards.

It is fairly certain that no one is going to refuse a gift of cash. This makes sense if you think about it. Cash allows the gift recipient to buy whatever they want. While you can feel good about allowing the person to get something that they really want, you might never know what it is that they ended up doing with your gift. By "wrapping" your gifts of cash in Christmas cards, you might be setting an expectation that every card they open will contain such a nice surprise.

If giving cash does not appeal to you at all, you can opt for the ever popular gift card. Almost every retailer in operation today sells gift cards in many denominations. In addition, they make it really easy for you to purchase a gift card by placing them at the front of the store as you check out. In fact, many supermarkets and other retailers now have what they call "gift card malls" where you can buy gift cards from dozens of retailers not in any way associated with the store that you are in.

While the rules vary from one retailer to the next and one state to another, one consideration when buying a gift card is that it might have an expiration date. You need to understand the rules of the card you are buying as a gift. You also should consider the person you are buying for, whether they would shop at that store, or whether they even have access to a particular store.

As you try to resolve the conflict in your mind over giving cash or a gift card as a gift in the first place, and then decide which one you are going to give, don't forget to buy enough Christmas cards to use as the gift wrap for these gifts. Even if you are not thrilled with the idea of giving these types of gifts, you can be sure that the recipients will be happy about them.
