Traveling Around Perth
Captain James Stirling founded Perth in June 1829 along the banks of the Swan River as the free-settlers' political base
. It is presently the largest city in the Western Australia Province and its capital. It is widely known as the 'City of Light' because of the action of the residents in relation to an American astronaut passing over the city. In 1962, they lit both streetlights and houselights as John Glenn passed overhead aboard Friendship 7. They repeated this in 1998 as Glenn passed overhead aboard the space shuttle.Perth is included among the most isolated cities of the world. The Mediterranean climate in the city makes it an ideal place to visit. The summers are hot and dry while the winters are wet and mildly cold. You should preferably plan your visit either during spring or autumn. The city experiences more than 300 days of sunshine in a year.
There are many tourist attractions in Perth, among of which are the sandy beaches that stretch for miles. Most of the beaches are on the southern part of the city. Some of them are Cottesloe Beach, Brighton Beach, Trigg Beach, Scarborough Beach, Leighton Beach, Coogee Beach, Mindarie, Mullaloo, Secret Harbor, Floreat, Yanchep, Sorrento and Swanbourne. If you are interested in a nudist beach, then Swanbourne is your ideal destination.
One of the new attractions in the city is the Wheel of Excellence where you can enjoy a ferris wheel ride for thirteen minutes. During the ride, you will have some spectacular views of both the Swan River and the city.
If you are traveling with children, then head to the Adventure World park where you will enjoy a variety of fun activities such as waterslides. There are a number of picnic spots and a special kid's cove.
Visit vineyards in the Swan valley, where you will have the opportunity to do some wine tasting. Other places that you should visit when you are still at the Swan valley are Oggies Ice Cream Shop and Margaret River Chocolate Factory.
Other special attractions in the city are the Swan Bells Tower, Perth Mint, Mundaring Weir, Burswood Entertainment Complex, Hillary's Boat Harbor, King's Park and Claisebrook Cove.
There are different modes of transport that you can use to tour around the city of Perth. You can travel around Perth by train, as the city has a good suburban railway network. If you are coming from Sydney, you can use the Indian Pacific trans-continental railway trains.
You may also use either taxi or car rental services. The standard speed limit in the city is 50 kilometers per hour. There are two main taxi services, namely, TriColor Taxis and Swan Taxis.
There are different bus services that you can also use. If you use the ones plying the free transit zone, then you will not need to buy a ticket.
If you would like to travel on the Swan river, then there are ferry services that will take care of your needs. It is the most ideal method of going to South Perth.
