. It is not just the UK theatre industry that says this. It is also acknowledged by the many Hollywood stars that are desperate to play in the West End.
One such is Jeff Goldblum who recently appeared in Speed the Plow at the Old Vic. The Old Vic is now staging its very own West End production at the Vaudeville Theatre in which Goldblum will star alongside Mercedes Ruehl. Not only do both these stars have a huge following and many awards between them they are performing in one of the most successful American writers works. The play is Prisoner of Second Avenue by Neil Simon.
All the above factors will make sure that this limited season running until 11 September will be a huge hit and one of Londons hottest theatre tickets this summer.
Another comic summer hit plays at the Comedy Theatre until 4 September. That is La Bete by David Hirson. It stars two great UK actors and another Hollywood star.
Mark Rylance has won an Olivier Award this year and has already enjoyed a fine run in the West End this year in the Royal Courts transfer of Jerusalem. Joanna Lumley is a national institution and hardly needs any introduction at all. They are both joined by David Hyde Pierce who is best known for playing Niles Crane in the long running sitcom Frasier. He is also at home on the stage having appeared on Broadway in Spamalot.
Meanwhile at the Duke of Yorks Theatre until 7 November is the transfer of Ghost Stories following its sell-out season at the Lyric Hammersmith. However this show is genuinely not for those of a nervous disposition.
