Feral animals
Australia certainly has unique and diversified wildlife. In most cases, it is not the presence of termites, ants, roaches and bugs that concerns them the most. Over the years, it has been the feral animals that have brought so much trouble to endanger the natural environment. Feral animals are predators and have become a problem since they started to grow in numbers. They endanger the natural wildlife by their competitive behaviour to survive, competing for food and shelter, destroying habitat and spreading disease. Feral animals can also contribute to the cause of soil erosion.
Weather conditions in Australia
Like most of the countries in the Southern hemisphere, Australia has 4 different climates: Summer, autumn, winter and spring. There may be differences in the months that these climates occur but basically, it is the same as the other countries. However, weather conditions in Australia can go to the extremes. With this in mind, temperature can go as high as 50 degrees Celsius and can go down as low as sub-zero.
Both temperature extremes trigger pests and insects to either populate or hibernate. If it is too cold outside, termites find their way into homes and build a colony there. Excessive heat and rain causes the pests and insects to transfer to an environment where they can survive. Human habitation seems to be the most comfortable place these pests like to thrive.
Winning the battle
Fortunately for residents of Australia, there are already organizations dedicated to winning the battle against the pest problem in the country. These organizations have done extensive and lucrative studies about different species of pests and insects. In order to kill these unwanted pests they try to understand the behaviour, habitation, characteristics and traits of the pests. Some pests are easy to kill. However, with the foreign pests, these organizations are still in the process of studying the species.
Throughout the ages, Australia has been infested with pests of all sorts. Records have shown different species invading the country both from foreign pests and feral animals. Moreover, there are a number of pest control companies that have joined forces to control these pests. There has been usage of conventional control like shooting, trapping, and eradicating completely them. There has been biological control as well and both have been helpful in controlling the pest problem in the country.
