Did you know that kids text messaging can be incredibly dangerous
? We are not talking about it being dangerous because they could rack up a huge cell phone bill for their parents, either. It is dangerous in many other terrible ways. Many parents as well as kids really do not know that texting particularly sexual content can lead to legal action, jail time, formal charges and many other terrible things. Messages that are texted are just as easily transferred to others as emails are, which is exactly what makes them so dangerous.However, there are things you can do to make sure that your kids text messaging does not get out of hand and that they stay safe. In order for them to not do it, they have to know not to do it and they have to know why they can not do it. First of all, many cell phones that kids have these days are equipped with a camera. Teenagers will take pictures of anything or anyone, doing just about anything. It does not take much more than a few button clicks for them to be able to take a risky picture of someone they know doing something they should not be and then forward it to twenty of their friends from their contact list. Pretty soon, that picture is spreading through the entire school like wild fire, and the person who is the main subject in that text message has a ruined reputation forever.
So what can a ruined reputation like that do to a child? Hopefully you are already aware of the potentially serious implications that can result from kids text messaging like this. The child could go into a deep depression and completely withdrawal from school activities, from friends, from family and everything they once enjoyed. As they get older, they might turn to drugs or drinking alcohol to try to relieve the pain of having no friends, stemming from that one episode of kids text messaging. Who can tell what happens after this point; they could die from a drug overdose at the young age of 33, they could become an alcoholic who is driving drunk one day, who strikes and kills a child, and there are a thousand other things that could happen.
On the other hand, after their reputation is ruined by kids text messaging about them, they could become incredibly angry and beat the person up who was responsible for initiating the text. They could be sent to the juvenile detention center, only to get out and be even more angry. By this point their very nature is to be angry and seek revenge, and one day all it takes is someone to cross their paths wrong and they go and get a gun and shoot that person. Can you imagine that all of this could happen just because of one instance of kids text messaging? Most people do not think this far ahead nor can they imagine that something like this could happen, but this is exactly how serious kids text messaging can be, and children have to know and understand things like this.
