The Black Keys Tickets - The Black Keys Tour In Support Of 'brothers'
The Black Keys' singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Pat Carney may not be brothers by blood
, but the two musicians are kin when it comes to making blues-rock music, as evidenced by the duo's latest album, Brothers. The Black Keys' latest release for Nonesuch Records arrived May 18 and was entirely produced by Auerbach and Carney, with the exception of one song, "Tighten Up," which features production by Danger Mouse. The album features 14 original songs and a cover of Jerry Butler's "Never Gonna Give You Up." The pair recently took home a Moonman for Breakthrough Video for "Tighten Up," directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.Speaking about the follow-up to their 2008 album Attack & Release, which was entirely produced by Danger Mouse and was the band's career-best in sales, Carney said in a statement, "Dan and I grew up a lot as individuals and musicians prior to making this album. Our relationship was tested in many ways but at the end of the day, we're brothers, and I think these songs reflect that," reports Billboard.com. The Akron, Ohio-based band recorded the bulk of their sixth album at the iconic Muscle Shoals Studio in Muscle Shoals, Ala. after taking some time off from the Black Keys in 2009.
During their Black Keys hiatus, Auerbach released his first solo record for Nonesuch, called Keep It Hid, while Carney also debuted a side project titled Drummer on his own Audio Eagle record label. Also in 2009, the Black Keys ventured into hip-hop territory, collaborating with rappers like Mos Def, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, RZA and Raekwon under the name Blakroc. Billboard.com reports that the eponymous project debuted at the top of the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Although Auerbach and Carney have remained tight-lipped on the subject, the pair plans on releasing a second volume of Blakroc music in the future.
The Black Keys hit the road immediately after releasing Brothers, making stops on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, opening for Pearl Jam in May and performing at Central Park's SummerStage twice in June. The Black Keys have tour dates lined up in cities like New Orleans, La.; San Diego, Calif.; Hollywood, Calif.; Oakland, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Vancouver, BC; Portland, Ore.; Austin, Texas; Tulsa, Okla. and more through a New Year's Eve gig in Chicago, Ill.
Auerbach and Carney released their debut album, The Big Come Up, in 2002 and the effort landed the Black Keys a recording contract with Fat Possum, which released their next album, the 2003 effort Thickfreakness. After opening for rockers Sleater-Kinney on tour, the pair returned to the studio to record 2004's lauded Rubber Factory, which was followed by the blues covers EP Chuluhoma. Auerbach and Carney released Magic Potion in 2006 after moving to a major label and followed with Attack & Release in 2008.
