Stairway to Heaven Lyrics and Neil Sedaka's Angelic Life

Stairway to Heaven Lyrics and Neil Sedaka's Angelic Life

Stairway to Heaven Lyrics and Neil Sedaka's Angelic Life

All right, maybe Neil Sedaka wasn't an angel but his "Stairway to Heaven" lyrics remain some of the most uplifting and feel good lyrics of the 1960s. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and immediately took a liking to the radio. By the time was eight years old, he began playing the piano for five hours each and every day. His piano teacher encouraged his parents to buy him his own piano, and eventually they caved. (Wise investment, huh?)

By the time Sedaka was a teen he was already doing stints on the classical music station, WQRX and was writing his own songs. As a youth, he was introduced to Howie Greenfield and their collaboration lasted well beyond the 1960s. As every great musical mind does at some point, Sedaka formed his own band. The Linc-Tones formed in 1956 and were accepted by Melba Records. Sedaka kept busy by helping other groups with their own recordings. As we can see, the creator of the Stairway to Heaven lyrics had talent from a very young age!

The Linc-Tones enjoyed limited success but ultimately broke up because of their inability to make a national name for themselves. During the band's break up Sedaka met his "angel" lover in Leba Strassberg. They were married in 1962. Mrs. Sedaka also became his manager.Stairway to Heaven Lyrics and Neil Sedaka's Angelic Life

On his own, Sedaka began to shine. He sold a few songs to major studios and got to listen as Connie Francis, LaVern Baker and Clyde McPhatter performed them. It wasn't until he signed with Aldon Records that he was finally able to realize his dream and sing for a national audience. Some of his 1950s hits included "The Diary", "I Go Ape" and "Oh! Carol."

His Stairway to Heaven lyrics were well liked, but the song wasn't as successful as his previous hits. He recovered nicely as he grew up, and introduced us to many memorable classics like "Calendar Girl", "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" and "Next Door to an Angel." (Boy did the guy love his wife or what?) His career slowed during the mid 1960s but he enjoyed a comeback by the early 1970s and won a Grammy award for his collaboration with Greenfield.

Neil Sedaka is still alive today and still pops up from time to time at singing venues and in small acting parts. The Stairway to Heaven lyrics are still remembered by his fans, despite the popularity of that OTHER song. Sedaka most recently stopped by the set of The King of Queens for a cameo appearance. This heaven and wife worshiping talent is truly a part of music. Why not listen to Sedaka's heavenly vocal chords by downloading Stairway to Heaven right now?
