Shoppers will be drawn to the book shop in the run up to Christmas

With only a few more weeks until Christmas, many people will be heading to their local book shop to pick up a gift for their loved ones.

It could be that they're looking for a best seller for a gift; Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro is one book that is proving popular at the moment, perhaps because the film adaptation will hit cinemas shortly. The book is five years old, but the recent film version has been nominated for awards such as Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and many others at this year's British Independent Film Awards, re-sparking interest.

The book shop is also home to many bargains - many titles in the bargain section have 50 per cent or more slashed off the price which will allow bargain hunters to give a fantastic gift at an incredible price.

However, because it's Christmas, shoppers might want to give something special. Any book lover would be speechless when presented with a first edition copy of a book. They're often seen as an investment because many first edition copies can grow in value and some sell for thousands of pounds. If a shopper can find a signed first copy, they might make someone's Christmas.

The book shop is also the prefect place to find luxury stationery, though this side of the business can be overlooked. You can find quirky mugs, pretty pencil tins and nice pens in a book shop. They can be one of the cheapest places to pick up moleskin notebooks and detailed diaries, leather journals and other luxury items that you can't find in many stores.

Shoppers could even give the gift of language for Christmas. Every good book shop will have a language section with books to help people learn foreign languages, or better understand their own.

The book shop has remained popular throughout the years and, even with the growing popularity of eBooks, handing someone hundreds of beautifully laid out pages will always be a fantastic gift to give.
