Salvador Da Bahia Travel Guide

Salvador is the capital city of the State of Bahia in Brazil

. The city, which is located along the Atlantic coast, has a rich history. It used to be the headquarters of the Portuguese colonial administration. The city also has a great culture, and is where Capoeira started. This is a beautiful blend of Afro-Brazilian martial arts and dance.

Many of the people of Salvador are descendants of the former African slaves. The current residents come from different races and nationalities, having different cultures and religious beliefs, lending to the rich cultural diversity found here. You will notice this diversity in a number of areas, including culinary traditions.

The old quarter of the city, known as Pelourinho, will give you the opportunity to experience the colonial past in different ways, particularly in the old buildings that have still been well preserved. The cobblestone streets that are narrow and winding will also take you away from the hustle and bustle of modern cities.

The old quarter was renovated to make it safer to visit in the 1990s. However, some people insist that the renovations made it lose some of its value. Nevertheless, you will still find many interesting features from the colonial era. Salvador Da Bahia Travel Guide

You will experience the upbeat Brazilian culture in Pelourinho, particularly when you visit on a Tuesday. The poor in the community were usually given bread in the evenings in some form of religious celebration. Hence, the evenings turned out to be festive periods, and the tradition has carried on every Tuesday, when the people dance to lively music.

Some of the old buildings are colonial churches, none of which resembles the other. You will find something unique in each colonial church. As you go from one church to another on foot, you will have the chance to see many special sights at close range. This is an especially good way of finding some great places on your own, places that will not be included in the travel guides you use.

There is more to enjoy in Salvador than just the old city. Several beautiful beaches surround the city, where you can have a great time. One of the popular beaches is Porto da Barra, where you can enjoy a swim in the calm waters. The beach is popular with both tourists and the locals, who often go there on weekends. The beach is usually a hub of activities on Sundays, when it receives many visitors.

Another special feature found in Salvador is Elevador Lacerta. This is composed of four elevators that people use to go from the lower sections of the city to its higher parts, going to a height of 236 feet. You will not only enjoy the spectacular scenes of the city but also the experience of riding in the lift itself. An average of 50,000 people use the elevators on a daily basis.

Any time is a good time to visit Salvador as the temperature is ideal throughout the year. This is certainly a good place to pamper yourself.
