In 2008, photographer John Isaac published a book, The valley of Kashmir. Its 160 images are the result of five years of dedicated photography, collecting 11 trips in the troubled region, a valley straddling the border between India and Pakistan. The pictures give an idea of life in Kashmir photos, both in terms of their intimate and people across the landscape that shapes the culture. The book was a difficult task, especially for a retired photographer.
After a 30-year career, including 20 years photographing the United Nations in some of the world's most turbulent regions, Isaac wanted to get away from journalism. Kashmir back.
At 66, Isaac attributes the success of the project, in large part to digital technology, namely the fact that he uses cameras incorporate the Four Thirds sensor, which makes the system smaller, lighter and easier for travel.
Inspiration
In 2007, born in India, Isaac became a naturalized citizen after 40 years in the U.S. Although he has toured the world for decades, he had seen only in photos Kashmir. "When I went in 2003," Isaac said: "I went with an open mind to see who these people the image I saw was completely different, not what everybody said C '.. The hardest part for me was to show the reality in Kashmir, which is that people are inherently peaceful, but there are elements that come in and disturbing. I made about 11 trips during the five full years, and I've never been a threat to my life, not once. There once was an attack not far but nobody has captured or threatened me. It happened in other places. But here is mainly ordinary people who are really between a rock and a hard place. I do not know what to do. They are in trouble. Some terrorist movement was infiltrated, and they did things. But almost everyone recognizes the Kashmiris for her.

Isaac Kashmir is innocent, but the photographer said it's not true. His experience, his photographs show, was a beauty and simplicity. This appealed to British and European tourists in the past, to travel, like Isaac, is sure to regain its popularity.
"I tell you," he said, "I have traveled to more than 100 countries in my life to working as a photojournalist, but I've never seen anything as beautiful as Kashmir. It's spectacular. And that's what I wanted. It seems over to a table of coffee table books as a travel book. You glaciers, villages, mountains, daily life, agriculture, gathering of grass. Capturing intimate views of family life requires a photographer with a special sensitivity. Kashmir's beauty is what appealed to Isaac, and the exotic character of an ancient culture that seemed to move backwards in time.
