It may seem hard to travel with your family dog or cat nowadays thinking that it would be so hard to find them a place to stay
. But pet friendly motels and hotels are not as difficult to find as you may think. This may be very convenient for those people who have a passion for traveling or need to move elsewhere and would like to take their pets with them without the issue of leaving them in the care of friends or at the veterinarians.Luckily, there are multiple options to choose from such as hotels bed and breakfasts, motels resorts and vacation rentals of which some are pet friendly. What's more, in some of these locations they even provide veterinary services and have pet care facilities such as beds and blankets.
Before checking in to one of these pet friendly hotels or motels, the suggestion is to try and gain as much information possible about the place since these have all different rules and regulations to follow.
Another good tip is not to feed your pets with too much food in the morning before leaving for your destination, as they could get sick on the plane or in the car. If you are indeed going to travel with your dog in a car, bring plenty of water and a water dish with you so he can dehydrate when the pet is thirsty. You can also pack his favorite treats, toys and a crate in case the dog needs to be kept in it in the car. Another good thing would be to buy dog seat belts to keep the dog secure while driving. Plan your travel by car so your pet can stretch and have extra exercise. In any case, you should consult with a veterinarian as to what you need to bring your pets with you when you travel.
On the other hand, traveling by air with pets can be done in two ways in the cabin or as cargo. This depends on the size of the pets themselves. Those who are too large to fit comfortably in a carrier, must travel in cargo. So the best thing to do is contact the airline to see if they can get your pet on the carrier or in the cargo.
One final tip is to check where the local animal hospital is where you can obtain emergency medical care for your pet if needed. AAA members can get information about pet friendly places you can find along the route to your destination.
