Personal Power

Personal Power

Your personal power is your ability to do something about the way your life is going

. This comes as a surprise for most people. The number of people who spend their lives convinced that they are a victim is surprising. Realising that you can build your own life is something many people find very hard to get to grips with. The "victimhood" belief, is a very hard one to shake. We think ourselves as an individual surrouned by events and circumstances that are totally out of our control. Life is something that just happens around us.

It is a concept we find hard to accept, this ability to make a difference to ourselves or others, to see ourselves as someone with personal power. We spend so much time blaming everything that happens on "events" for where we are. So much so, that even when things are going well we don't take ownership but put it down to luck, chance - nothing to do with us.

In particular, women are more liable to give their personal power away. Their danger is in what we call "false yin". This is the circumstance where we allow things to be done to us; we confuse the ideas of passivity and receptiveness.

It is something quite powerful to be receptive, rather than allowing people to take charge of your life, to be passive. Receptivity means awareness, open to the world around you. Passiveness means being dull and unware. When you are really receptive you start to come really alive. If you are passive then you are half dead.Personal Power

The matter of personal power includes those around us. None of us live in solitary confinement, that's reality. We live in constant interaction with so many others, and how we deal with them is intimately connected to our personal power.

There are some people in our lives who take from us, there are others who support us. We need to be clear about this. Loss of personal power often involves another person. We can be too submissive to our husband, our wife, our children.

Personal power can only be used in relation to others, that's why we have to be able to look at our relationships clearly. How many wives or mothers put aside something they want to do in their lives because they are afraid to uspset their husband or child.

A great thing to do, is to take some time, maybe a week, maybe a month, to keep a diary; the longer the better. Do this to examine how you, as an individual, relate to those around you in life. Consider who, in your personal and wider network, are the takers and who are the supportive ones and jot down how you reacted to them. Were you receptive or passive? Were you submissive or did you act with personal authority?

To become aware of actually how you are is a first stepping stone to accessing your personal power. How often do you make decisions? How often do you allow others to make decisions for you? Examine this and be honest with yourself and your life could begin to change for the better.Personal Power

Taking charge of your life improves everything, you start to become a happier, healthier person, a more interesting one too.

There is nothing more boring than a victim, a person who is always blaming circumstances or other people for the state of their life. On the other hand, we all enjoy the company of an independent, thinking person who is able to take on the challenges of life.

There is no question, that a person who is connected to their own personal power, is magnetic and attractive to others. People are drawn to them and enjoy their company. So, cease to be a victim take on your own personal power and improve your relationships by 100%.
