Paula Deen Live Tickets Celebrity Chef Paula Deen Gives Back
Southern-fried celebrity chef Paula Deen has a packed schedule with her Food Network television shows, books and tours, but that doesn't mean she doesn't take time to give back. While in Winston-Salem, N.C. on May 20, for example, Deen visited the Second Harvest Food Bank to raise awareness for those going hungry in the northwest part of the state. MyFox8.com reports that Deen paired with Smithfield Hams to deliver 100,000 servings of ham and other foods to the food bank in correlation with "Helping Hungry Homes."
"Helping Hungry Homes" was established to make sure that families across the nation don't go hungry, and Deen was more than happy to help. The Food Network star told MyFox8.com, "You know my daddy said something I so believe it, he said that 'charity begins at home.' You know, we do a lot to help other nations, but we cannot forget our homes and we must take care of our own."
A member of Feed America, Second Harvest Food Bank has distributed food to nearly 400 nonprofit partner agencies across the Piedmont. Officials at Second Harvest reveal that demand at the food bank has increased a whopping 76 percent over the last year so Deen's commitment to the cause is more important now than ever.
Despite being a major star in the food and entertainment industries, Paula Deen remains down-to-earth, which is a large part of her appeal. Deen first found success on the Food Network with Paula's Home Cooking, which debuted in 2002, and she has since launched several more shows on the network, like Paula's Party. Her newest installation is Paula's Best Dishes, which premiered on the Food Network on June 5.

Deen was among the stars tapped to present at the 2010 CMT Awards, along with Hayden Panettiere, Richard Petty, Kenan Thompson, Kara DioGuardi, Terrell Owens, Trisha Yearwood and the Zac Brown Band. The country music awards show was held in downtown Nashville and hosted by Kid Rock.
During an interview promoting her latest book, Paula Deen's Savannah Style, with CMT.com, Deen revealed that music is a big part of her life. "Music is so important to life, I think. It's like food. It feeds another part of your body. You know, you can be feeling down in the dumps or think you can't move and a great song will come on. And before you know it, you're jiving around to that song and feeling a whole lot better," Deen said. As hard as it may be to imagine the chef "down in the dumps," her words undoubtedly ring true.
