There are many qualified orthodontists who will offer advice and share their professional opinion and it is up to the patient to determine the course of their treatment, but the rewards are worth slight discomfort and the results are long lasting. Orthodontic treatment also corrects jaw overbites and underbites when the teeth do not fit on top of one another properly and this could cause facial protrusions and irregularities. Braces and plates corrects these jaw malalignments and will reduce the resulting headaches.
Although braces and plates tae a long time to set the teeth properly, it causes less trauma over a period of time and the retainers should be worn after the braces have been removed to prevent shifting of teeth. Special care should be taken of teeth when the braces are fitted as sticky toffee-like foods could make the brackets come off the teeth and certain food could also stain teeth under the braces. Orthodontists will give special instructions of tooth care to prevent permanent damage to teeth after the removal of the braces. In most cases, successful orthodontic treatment gives patients a reason to smile.
