How do Thai's get a Dutch Citizenship?
They must enrol in a registered five-week citizenship course. These Dutch courses specialise in preparing Thai nationals who wish to take the civic integration examination at the Dutch embassy in Bangkok. The duration of a typical course is 5 weeks from Monday to Friday for 3.5 hours per day and the study materials that are used, specifically focus on the civic integration exam.
Civic Integration Examination:
The principles of the current integration policy are included in the Global Agreement of the Dutch cabinet Balkenende II (May 16, 2003) and Thai's who want to settle permanently in the Netherlands must learn the Dutch language and actively participate in the Dutch society. To qualify for a provisional residence permit (MVV), newcomers from Thailand are required to pass an exam, the civic integration examination abroad, at the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok.
How does the course prepare me for the Nederlands Visum in Thailand?
Part 1. Knowledge of Dutch Society: Materials used are "Nederland' voor to, and several photo books.
Part 2. Proficiency: This part consists of repeating sentences, short answer questions, giving contradictions, and a short story retelling. The student trains with the materials that are specially adapted and twice a week there are joint lessons with Thai Instructors. They have passed the exam and obtained an MVV visa and are available to help the students. They inform the students to what they can expect and the students can always ask them for advice.
Domestic Civic Integration Examination:
To qualify for a permit for permanent residence in the Netherlands, another exam has to be passed called the domestic civic integration examination. In December of 2003, a consortium consisting of the CINOP, LTS and Ordinate were commissioned by the Ministry of Justice to develop an exam to assess spoken language skills in Dutch. This test was developed for the civic integration examination abroad.
