It is a three story stone structure with a tall tower surrounded by marble domes. It stands as a pride of a great kingdom giving us flashback of the bygone era.

The palace has become a national treasure which is converted into a museum showcasing artistic collection of paintings, jewellery, costumes of royal family, souvenirs and many other things owned by the Wodeyars. Ground floor consists of portraits, musical instruments etc. Collection of weapons is displayed at the upper floor. The strong silver doors, columned durbar hall and mahogany ceiling beautified with carvings are all which soothes the eyes of the visitors. British architect Henry Irwin designed this great monument for the Wodeyars.

Century old Mysore zoo has a great history associated with it. The architect of modern Mysore Chamaraja Wodeyar introduced the zoological gardens in Mysore. The maharaja who had great affection for nature had set many parks and gardens in Mysore. From the portion of summer palace, Zoological garden called palace zoo was set up in 1892. This zoo with great collection of animals stands on a quaint landscape at the backdrop of Chamundi hills and one artificial lake. The maharaja brought best varieties of animals to this zoo from different countries he visited. This zoo was gifted by the Maharaja to the Mysore state government in 1948. More land was added from the palace and karanji tank area making it a zoo with huge 250 acres of land.
