How Do You Stop Plaque Attacks?

First of all, you cannot stop plaque from happening. Right now, try running your tongue through your front teeth. In all probability, there is a slightly slimy feel to your teeth, and it is not squeaky clean. You get this from a combination of saliva, plaque, bacteria, and maybe even the food you ate earlier.

You can stop plaque though from attacking your teeth by removing. No plaque equals 90% chance of getting a cavity or experiencing a tooth loss.

There are two ways you can prevent plaque from attacking your teeth. You need to adopt both ways because one without the other still leaves a door open for the plaque to wreak havoc with your gums and teeth.

First, you need long term preventive maintenance. This means getting a sealant placed on all your permanent teeth. The dental sealants will need replacements because they wear off after a while, especially on the teeth you use for chewing and grinding your food. You should also start paying attention to your toothpaste choice. Use one that contains fluoride which will give your teeth an extra boost from erosion. Aside from this source, you can also get fluoride from select food items and water.

Part of your preventive maintenance is to schedule dental visits twice a year, professional cleaning at least once a year, and if necessary, a serious look at what changes you can make in your diet. Too much sweets is just plain bad news, not just for your teeth, but for your overall health.

The second way to prevent plaque from attacking your teeth is through proper daily dental care. You will need to brush at least two times a day, floss before brushing, and using a mouth wash or mouth rinse. There are even mouth gargles you can use prior to flossing and brushing, supposedly to help loosen the plaque so that its easier to remove. Talk to your dentist what the best products are for you and your family.

To prevent plaque from attacking your gums, you need to do the following:

Again, decrease your sugar intake since it feeds the bacteria

Start taking natural supplements like Vitamin C. However, while Vitamin C can strengthen your gum tissue, if you are already diagnosed with high iron, you cannot take Vitamin C. In the same manner, if you are sensitive to Vitamin C, you should start with a low dose first to prevent possible diarrhea before taking the regular 1,500 mg daily.

Another supplement you can take is Zinc. Zinc will improve the health of your gums because it triggers balanced white blood cell production. It can also heal bleeding gums faster and prevent plaque from turning into calculus (hardened plaque). The usual does should be about 20 mg daily, or if you already have gingivitis, then the dosage should increase to 40 mg for one trimester.

Of course, before you start taking anything, be sure to consult with your doctor and dentist. Even with natural supplements, there can be minor side effects, so better to be on the safe side and get everyones professional approval first.
