Making Halloween Fun For Everyone!
Kids look forward to going out trick or treating on Halloween after all it is a time
honored tradition! However, the world we live in is not the world we used to have. We are less likely to know our neighbors well and there are dangers from speeding cars, older kids bullying, and getting suspicious treats. But you don't have to go trick or treating all over town to have a great Halloween. Here are some fun tips to make your night spooky and safe!Party!
You can host a Halloween party for your kids and all their friends. You can have it at your house or find a local community center that you can use. Get a few families together and throw a big Halloween bash that can become a tradition. Serve great fall food like apple cider, stew or chili, and delicious pumpkin pie! Play fun games and have activities like bobbing for apples, pin the nose on the witch, and Halloween trivia. You can even have a pumpkin carving contest. Use your imagination and have fun! If you chose to go trick or treating, you can make it part of your party plan. Go out as a group for a certain amount of time then come back to the party for dinner and games.
Make a Haunted House
Kids of all ages love haunted houses - well, most of them! Create a haunted house in your garage or your yard then invite friends and neighbors over. You don't need to spend a lot of money or be elaborate. Mysterious and shadowing lighting is perfect as well as hidden areas for monsters to hide. Create creepy and slimy things for your guests to touch. Peeled grapes make great eyeballs and cold, cooked spaghetti is perfect for worms. Let your kids be a part of planning and setting up the haunting. They will have more fun planning it than they ever did trick or treating!
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is really catching on in a lot of communities. Some are sponsored by schools, others by churches but the end result is the same - good, safe fun! The idea behind trunk or treat is to gather as a group at a parking lot, usually a school or a church and do your trick or treating there. You will want to decorate your trunk or the back of your truck or SUV and then use the space to hand out your treats. Many times the organization will have a contest for the most creative trunk decorations. People get pretty elaborate with their car decorations so be prepared for some serious competition!
Trick or treating doesn't have to be the only game in town on Halloween. Start your own traditions and make the holiday safe and fun for your family.
