Kids Feet

As we all know, only too well, that kids grow up practically overnight

. So, it seems like they are always outgrowing clothing. Their little bodies are constantly maturing, from their head to their little toes. Proper footwear is even important in the infant stage, and once theyre up and walking, your choice of footwear can determine the healthy growth of your childs feet. The fit and design of kids shoes can make a world of difference in their gait as a child and an adult. Many parents think that it doesnt make much difference what shoe they wear when theyre only toddlers, but that may not be completely true. The bones in their little feet are always growing and ill fitting shoes may lead to foot pain and growth deformities. The first year of their growth is the most important, according to experts.

Children can suffer from foot conditions, as well as adults. Flat feet, overlapping toes, as well as pain in their big toe, heels, ankles, and forefoot. Its a good idea to not try to force your child to start walking until theyre fully prepared to do so. Even though as parents we get so excited at those first steps, waiting until theyre ready is the wisest option. Its also a good idea to let them go barefoot as much as possible when indoors, unless specified by a doctor due to any foot conditions. Being barefoot gives their little piggies room to grow and play a big part in normal development.

As your child continues to grow, so does his feet and its been suggested that changing footwear, (shoes and socks) every two or three months is a good idea. I realize that buying new shoes so often can become a bit expensive, but it is unadvisable to have your child wear hand me downs when it comes to footwear. You want your childs shoes to fit to his feet, not take the shape of the previous owner. If you think your child may have a problem in the normal development of their feet, its a good idea to check with a podiatrist to be on the safe side.

As they go through age group changes, the type of shoes they wear will vary. You may be choosing footwear for running, school, dancing and dress shoes. As your child enters all these different age group changes, they may have a negative reaction to your choice of footwear. This is the cool vs. sensible stage. We all go through it. Even though you may become a little stressed when explaining why they cant have those plastic clogs, just yet, try to remember when your parents took you shoe shopping. Remember those ugly sandal oxfords?
