Keeping Your Children Safe From Heater Harm

Keeping Your Children Safe From Heater Harm

Childproofing your home is a necessary part of parenting

. We want our children to be as safe as possible. When dealing with furnaces, fireplaces, and Utah heating systems it is important to childproof those as well.

A few heating systems are going to require less childproofing than others. For example, central heating systems cause little safety concerns for your children. You don't have to worry about burns, potential fires, or poisonous gases.

Older Utah heating methods, like electric baseboard heaters, will cause more safety concerns. It is important to childproof these heaters to prevent any accidents from happening. You don't want your child to get burned.

The best thing to do to keep your children safe is to supervise them. Children are natural explorers. They are curious and love to touch and check out new things.

In our first apartment we had electric baseboard heaters. Once our son came in to our lives we opted to use portable room heaters instead. It was too hard to watch him at all times, and at least with a space heater it was only one thing to constantly keep an eye on.

We of course had to be careful with our portable heater as well. The model we got was supposed to be cool to the touch, but that only works up to a certain degree. Once we weren't watching close enough and our daughter still managed to get a grab on the heater and pulled it down on top of her. While we were lucky this time because the heater automatically turns off when moved, and it wasn't as hot as most heaters, it was still a scary situation. We stepped up our game and moved the heater so it was well out of the way of prying fingers. Within a few years we had moved out of that home and were in a home with a much safer heating system.

The issue of keeping your child safe is there with any type of heating system. You have to consider fire safety with all systems. One of my friends lost half of her apartment because a blanket accidentally fell on her electric baseboard heater. It is important to keep all flammable substances out of close proximity to any heater.

There are safety gates that you can use to cause some distance between the Utah heating system and your child. These safety gates, or hearth gates, can be placed in front of furnaces and fireplaces to safeguard your children. If you have any other childproof methods that work for your family, be sure to share them.
