How To Travel Green

How To Travel Green

We are constantly being told to be more eco friendly and to consider what our actions are doing to the environment

. Stories about emissions and carbon footprints are always in the press, but don't let this put you off travelling abroad. You can still spend your holidays in an exotic destination, but you can take a few steps to ensure you travel green.

Firstly, travel light. This has many benefits that aren't all to do with the environment, packing light means there's less to carry which is a one environment free benefit for a start. If you travel with less then there's less to pack and unpack which is especially helpful if you are travelling to more than one destination.

However, the most important benefit to packing light is that the lighter your case, the less fuel is needed by the mode of transport in which you travel. Less fuel means less carbon emissions.

If you are driving to your holiday destination, where possible use a fuel efficient car or simply drive efficiently. You can do this by making sure your tyres are correctly inflated and accelerating steadily and maintaining a steady speed. Like the tip before, the less weight you carry in your car, the less emissions are produced, so don't carry things you don't need!

If you are flying, there are a number of environmentally friendly things you could do. Firstly, where possible, travel on direct flights. Not only do you reach your destination quicker, but it reduces your carbon footprint.

When travelling to the airport, take advantage of airport transfers or use public transport. Driving may be more convenient, but it is much easier to relax on a coach or train and you don't have to pay expensive car park fees.

The simplest and easiest way of cutting your carbon footprint is to walk, particularly on short journeys. Its excellent exercise, saves money on petrol and of course better for the environment!
