How To Pay Your Bills On Time, Every Time

Everyone misses a bill or two sometime in their lives

. Missing a payment isn't a small mistake however. It can result in damaged credit ratings, as well as budgeting issues if you thought you paid a bill but didn't and have to pay it off next month instead.

How can you ensure that you pay off your bills on time, every time? In order to do that, you need to use systems that are a lot more reliable than just your memory. Here's how to do it.

==> Change Your Bill Paying Times to the 1st and the 15th

You should pay your bills twice a month. All your bills should fall under one of these two dates.

If you have many different bills, from cellphones to cars to mortgages to credit cards to utilities and more, it can be very difficult to keep track of when each needs to be paid off.

Instead of trying to keep track, spend one evening just calling up all the different companies that you need to pay each month and asking them to change the billing date to either the 1st or the 15th. It'll make your life much easier.

==> Create a Bills Inbox

Create a box, shelf, cabinet or drawer specifically for bills. Anytime you receive a bill in the mail, throw it in the bills inbox.

Then twice a month, once on the 1st and once on the 15th, take out all the bills in the drawer and pay them off.

This prevents bills from being misplaced, left on the coffee table or lost. It makes it easy to take care of all of them in one go.

It also creates a mild psychological nagging when your bills aren't being paid, because you have a pile of unpaid bills all in one place. This also helps ensure that your bills get paid on time.

==> Schedule Your Bill Paying

Put the times you need to pay your bills in your calendar. Don't just count on remembering.

Yes, most of the time you'll remember. But all that needs to happen is one slipup a year to cause a lot of financial pain.

To stop that from happening, keep your bill paying days in your calendar. If you can setup some kind of alarm system where it beeps up on your phone or computer to remind you, so much the better.

==> Setup Automatic Payments When Possible

Whenever your can, setup automatic payments. Automatic bill pay makes it so you never have to worry about being late on a bill.

Though some merchants will have this feature, others won't. Make sure you also check in with your bank to see if they have some sort of feature that'll automatically pay your bills for you.

These features often require the merchant to accept a direct deposit into their bank account; so this will also only work with some merchants.

After setting up automatic payments, you should only have a few bills that you need to pay manually every month.

If you follow all the tips outlined in this article, you should never miss another bill again.
