Honeysuckle Hill B&B - A Family Affair by:Fred Riley

Family. There is nothing like time spent with family

, is there? Would you consider vacationing with family? Or even spending a long weekend with family? Or hosting a family event away from home? You're thinking of a big venue, aren't you? A hotel with 200 rooms or more? Staff that changes every 8 hours? Breakfast that's been kept warm under heating lights, or even worse, is wrapped in cellophane?

I'm thinking of something more personal. My wife and I run a Bed and Breakfast in a 200-year-old historical building on Cape Cod. We host families on a regular basis. The environment is so much more conducive to a family style getaway. We have 4 rooms and 1 suite that sleep up to 10 people.

Wouldn't a weekend on Cape Cod and an inn to yourselves - complete with children and grandchildren - be a lovely gift for a 25th anniversary, for example? There are plenty of day trips to augment such a stay. Something for everyone can be found on Cape Cod. Even a simple ride down the length of scenic Route 6A to Provincetown is a joy.

Consider a landmark birthday celebration away from home. If a lot of sightseeing is not what you're looking for, we can offer some quiet time alternatives. We have a library, a screened in porch on which to enjoy coffee or tea and a spot for people watching, a hot tub or chaise longue for enjoying our English Gardens. We have board games available, TVs in every room, and a DVD player in our King size room. And again, we are on Cape Cod and minutes away from a walk on the beach.Honeysuckle Hill B&B - A Family Affair by:Fred Riley

Extending the family concept to include close friends, what about basing a wedding or a wedding shower or a baby shower from a B&B? While the final details are coming together, let us take care of some basics for you. You can be in the fray, or in your own space. We'll provide breakfast, of course, and tea in the afternoon, if you like. We could be your home away from home for the weekend. We can decorate appropriately, as well, for whatever occasion.

There need not be a specific occasion for a weekend getaway to our Cape Cod inn. You could take over our inn for a girls' weekend, for example. We are located roughly an hour East of Boston and an hour West of Provincetown, making possible day trips to either or both locations. Enthusiastic guests could conceivably have breakfast in West Barnstable, shop in Boston, and dine in Provincetown all in the same day!

We do have a refrigerator on site for our guests' use, as well as a professional Viking barbecue, so that eating out for every meal that isn't breakfast is really optional. The barbecue is based on our European Patio which is positioned perfectly to catch Cape Cod's great sunsets.Honeysuckle Hill B&B - A Family Affair by:Fred Riley

You needn't keep your planning to summer occasions, either. We operate year round. Cape Cod is as lovely in fall and winter as it is in spring and summer. The beaches are still available for walking. There are still many, many things cultural and historical to do and see that are appealing to persons of all ages. You could include snowshoeing, a winter walk through a nature preserve, or cross country skiing options into your plans, as well, if that's your interest. At the inn, consider a glass of wine or tea and gourmet chocolate in front of a fireplace after a day spent enjoying the quiet of Cape Cod in the off season.

Before planning your family stay, visit us at http://honeysucklehill.com for a look at our rooms and English Gardens, suggestions for activities on Cape Cod, and our rather extensive list of amenities. Also, we do offer specials that could fit a weekend with friends and family.

About the author

Freddy & Ruth Riley's Innkeeping debut on Cape Cod was in 2004. Freddy brings imagination to the 4-course gourmet breakfasts served at the Honeysuckle Hill Inn, along with his English humor, a love of gardening and the ability to fix almost anything in and around the house. Freddy reflects on the many friends he and Ruth have made. "Hosting so many lovely guests has been gratifying," says Freddy. "Innkeeping has been a perfect fit for us."
