You may have a large box of family pictures in the closet or attic. You could organize some of them into photograph albums as gifts. Include notes that name those in the photographs, the year taken, and the occasion or location if you know. A couple of pages of text describing how the recipient is related to the various people or stories about them might be appreciated as well.

For a mother who has young children at home, give her the chance to pamper herself a bit. Present her with some bubble bath or bath oil, a fragrant candle, and some lotion. A bath pillow might be a welcome gift as well. For the second part of your gift, make arrangements to watch the children so she has plenty of time to indulge in a luxurious bath and maybe a nap.

Build your family tree or create a book of the family history. You can perform research at an online site that allows free searches. You probably have heard tidbits of information from your own grandparents or parents that you can include to round out the characters. Any information you might know, such as achievements, military service, or occupations, should be included also.

Almost every cook has personal recipes that have been developed or adapted. Purchase one of the hardcover journals that have lined pages and use it to write down your favorite recipes. If you inherited any special recipes from your grandmother or mother, add those also. Pointers or tips that others might need to know should be included as well.

Often, people do not have addresses and telephone numbers for all of their aunts, uncles, and cousins. Record all of this information on index cards, then place them behind alphabetical dividers in an attractive card file. If the relatives still have young children at home, include their names and ages on their parents' card. You might also add cards in the front, one for each month, with all the birthdays and anniversaries in that month.
