Give Your Kids Basic Directions When Doing Assignments

Give Your Kids Basic Directions When Doing Assignments

Research has it that 75% of parents today fail to help their kids with their homework because they feel that they are not qualified to do so

. Parents often feel unprepared, especially when the assignment is about Math or Science. Parents believe that they do not have the enough knowledge or the resources to help their kids answer their homework.

Math and Science are two very challenging subjects for kids. But when they ask help from their parents, they often get rejected because the parents themselves find the subject too complicated. Because of that, making assignments and school work in general becomes a stressful topic in some households.

On the other hand, there are some parents who help their kids with schoolwork at all times. In fact, most education experts recommend for parents to get involved with their kid's assignments up to a certain point. Although helping kids with their assignments is part of being a parent, parents should not do the actual work their kids.

Parents can help their kids do their homework by reminding them of the time and by making sure that they child's homework gets done. But when it comes to making the actual thing, parents should stay out of it.Give Your Kids Basic Directions When Doing Assignments

Some parents however find this a little difficult to do. These days, it is becoming harder for parents to keep their hands off of their kid's assignment because schools are piling more and more homework on their kid's back. On top of that, the current curriculum is becoming more complicated than the previous years. This is the reason why some parents find it hard to step back.

Perhaps part of being a parent is to want to help your child submit the best project in class, or write a very comprehensive book report. Not only that, parents also want their kids to perfect every exam and get a high mark on each assignment. Parents are naturally wired to protect their kids from making mistakes, so they end up forgetting the real purpose of assignments.

Always remember that schools give our children assignments for them to learn, so you should not do the work for them. Some parents go the (unnecessary) extra mile and take special classes or buy textbooks so that they can brush up on current school topics. Although this is good, keep in mind that your role should be just similar to a "stage manager".

Parents should guide their kids through the assignment by giving basic directions. They should provide encouragement and show a positive attitude towards school and studying. You should make sure that your child has a quiet, organized, and a well-lit place to study and to make his assignments. If you want to supervise your child while working, you can do your own quiet activity nearby.
