Gifts That Support Children Who Have Experienced Sudden Loss

The loss of a loved one is devastating for individuals of any age

. Children may have an especially difficult time dealing with the death of someone close to them. The grieving process may take longer simply because young children do not typically understand the permanence of death. In addition to offering your emotional support, you can also help the child deal with their loss by offering gifts that remind them that they are not alone in their grief.

There are many gifts that have been created specifically with children in mind. Young children will find comfort from soft angel dolls or similar soft dolls that they can wrap their arms around. When giving the gift to the child, you may tell them that the doll will help them to always be close to the one they lost. This will provide some degree of solace whenever they are missing the departed individual. If purchased through a condolence company, you may find that the doll comes with a suitable poem or verse that offers additional comfort to a young one.

Older children may appreciate angel statues that include a meaningful inscription or poem. There are special journals that are also great for children working through the process of grief. These journals often include lined pages where a child can write about their feelings, blank pages to draw pictures that express the childs emotions, and pages to include pictures of the departed individual. You might choose to add a picture of the child with the loved one that they lost in the journal before you offer the gift.

A picture frame that includes a photo of the departed individual is another thoughtful gift. The child can place this picture in their own bedroom as a way to remember their loved one. Consider having the picture frame engraved with a portion of a poem that will offer comfort to the child. There are picture frames that already come with verses meant to honor departed individuals.

Memorial jewelry such as necklaces with a special pendant may be suitable for older children so that they will always feel that their loved one is close to their heart. Again, you will find such jewelry at condolence gift shops where you may also find necklaces with pendants in which a picture of the loved one can be kept.

When choosing a condolence gift for a child, take the time to think of their individual personality. This way, you will be able to find a gift that means the most to them and offers them the greatest amount of comfort.
