Gap Year Volunteering - And An African Adventure!

Gap Year Volunteering - And An African Adventure!

Ever thought about gap year volunteering? What about spending part of your gap year

on an African safari? How about combining volunteering in Africa - where you can make a positive impact on the lives of some of the poorest people in the world - with an adventure holiday where you can go bungee jumping of Victoria Falls or white water rafting down the Zambezi? Now that's what I call an adventure vacation!

It is perfectly possible to combine the two. In fact we recommend it and, after giving your valuable time to an African volunteer project, you will deserve a reward for your efforts. Not that volunteering in Africa is necessarily hard physical work, but we'd be lying if we said it couldn't be tiring sometimes and that some aspects of it might effect your emotions.

If you are considering gap year volunteering, then Africa offers perhaps a greater diversity of choice - and a greater opportunity to do good - than anywhere else on the planet.

Although Africa is rich in culture, sadly the outskirts of places like Cape Town in South Africa, Nairobi in Kenya and Livingstone in Zambia have slum areas where people struggle to find adequate health care and schooling. There are many orphaned children. A few weeks spent in these places, helping with volunteering teaching or as a volunteer medical assistant, really can change people's lives. You don't need to be highly qualified either - you will be working alongside dedicated and skilled volunteer staff who need two things - a willing pair of hands and a desire to get involved. If that's you, then no matter what your education or practical skill set, there is always something beneficial you can give.Gap Year Volunteering - And An African Adventure!

Of course this being Africa, we can't leave out those interested in wildlife volunteering. You could work with the world famous Antelope Park lion rehabilitation program for one, but many others too. There are African volunteer placements for photographers too, if that's your thing.

But what about the adventure? Well why not reward yourself, where's the harm? After spending part of your gap year volunteering why not extend your stay in Africa and take in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of this stunning country? If the adrenalin rush of bungee jumping and that kind of thing isn't for you, there's always an African safari, big game fishing, surfing, visiting the renowned Cape vineyards... or maybe just lying on a golden sandy beach on Zanzibar. Even the money you spend relaxing will benefit the local economy.
