From Michigan To California: The Endless Appeal Of "entourage" On Satellite Tv

Share: While most television viewers aren't the most likely group out there to make it big in Hollywood
, there's still one show that tends to appeal to them despite the big differences in lifestyle choices. With the rise and fall--and rise again--of characters on "Entourage," viewers from Hollywood to the middle of nowhere Michigan have become invested in the life and times of Vincent Chase and his friends, and it appears that in the most recent season, everyone but Vinnie himself might find themselves on the fast track to success.
Whether this is a result of a changing climate in reality where people are a bit too stressed out about their own situations to care much about the world of sports cars and HDTV sets that makes up much of "Entourage" or simply a surprising move in better writing, the most recent season of "Entourage" appears more interested in answering bigger questions than how many scantily-clad models Chase and his friends can pack into a hot tub. With surprising plot twists (Vince dating a porn star and almost losing the biggest deal of his career, Ari dealing with the strong arm of the media), there is a lot more to overcome this season, and it appears that those who work hard might sometimes have their work cut out for them.
Eric, Vince's right-hand man and one of the more boring characters on satellite tv at any given moment, is currently dealing with a slicked-back preppy co-worker who wants to go into business for someone who isn't just an absentee agent, but Eric's too busy balancing Vince's trouble and planning his own wedding to get involved in the whole mess. At the same time, even Turtle seems to have more business sense and common sense than Vince lately, trying to turn a failing car business into success in launching a line of tequila. Even Johnny Drama is trying to diversify his hustle, jumping on board with animated series after his time at network doesn't net him more work.
Basically, even with star-studded cameos and fun-loving songs, this season of "Entourage" seems to be bringing the message to satellite tv that there is a lot of hard work out there in Hollywood, and even those who manage to stay on the straight and narrow and do a good job for decades might suddenly find themselves in a heap of trouble. Why audiences would want to watch Ari Gold brought down is beyond many viewers, but the fact that Vince's sudden carelessness for responsibility and need to embrace fast times and dumb choices might actually have consequences is a serious step up for a show that was once only based on showing the spoils of fame and money. It appears there might actually be some semblance of a moral at the end of the road of excess that made up much of the beginning of the series, and that might mean more viewers tuning in than ever before.

Share: It remains to be seen whether Vinnie Chase is going to manage to get his act together enough to keep landing deals, whether Eric will figure out his own place in the world of agent life with or without Vince, and whether or not Turtle and Johnny will see their own happy endings. But one thing is for certain: in one of the shows on satellite tv notorious for fans getting more captivated by the plots of characters like Ari and Lloyd and less on the entourage itself, there has been some serious scrambling in the writer's room to get everyone invested. And so far, that hustle definitely seems to be working off.
