A French bed is a style of bed that is uses a lot of curves, and designs to create amazing details. They are typically made out of an iron frame or a wood frame, both with much detail. It will be hard to find a French bed made out of any other material. In the European countries the term "French bed" refers to the size of a bed which is between the size of a double and full bed. It is not quite enough room for two people and a little too much enough room for one. They are usually around 47 inches wide, which is about one and half times the size of a twin bed. In Italy "letto francese" is also called a "one and a half"" or "una piazza e mezza" which mean a width equivlilent to one and a half twin beds.

In European countries French beds are beginning to lose popularity because it is does not contain enough room for two people. You can still find them in a lot of hotels, motels, and other lodging locations. Some households will use French beds in their homes because they have grown use to the size. It just comes down to what you prefer.

French style beds usually have head boards and foot boards that are beautifully hand carved or crafted. They are typically constructed from iron or wood. A lot of french style beds are antiques now but they are still durable and serve as reliable bed frames for today's use. They are still producing beds that still have the French characteristics but the style is a vintage style and replicates the vintage look. If you are looking for a more modern style bed you may want to opt out of looking into French beds.

Since a lot of the beds are antiques you can always find a beat up antique bed and restore it yourself. Most of the time all you need to do is sand it with sand paper and add a stain or a layer of varnish. The most authentic style available is be found by using or restoring a true antique. Of course a newer bed won't require any work but you won't get the true authentic look and feel.

The French bed is a thing of beauty and can be the perfect furniture piece to brighten up any room or bedroom. The sense of class and elegance it gives off creates a room of beauty. Whether you decide to restore an antique or buy a brand new model you will be sure to impress anyone who steps foot in your room.
