Do Not Make These Mistakes When Setting Goals For Your Online Income Business

Many internet business owners will set their goals for the New Year and the majority of those goals will be forgotten before the end of January

. In this article we will discuss ways to avoid the mistakes that many people make when setting their goals for their online businesses.

Avoid these mistakes and you will be more successful in reaching your desired goals:

1. The start of a new year gives us a fresh start and 365 days ahead of us in which to achieve all that we have decided to work towards. When looking at all this time ahead of us we will not limit the amount of goals to one or two, we will probably end up with a huge list of them.

By setting too many goals at a time, you are actually setting yourself up to fail, as you will become overwhelmed and more than half of them will be put aside for another year. A better idea would be to set a few goals for your online business in order of priority and begin by tackling the most important ones first.

2. Setting goals without thinking through your reasons for wanting to achieve them will mean that before the end of January they will have been forgotten. You need good specific reasons for wanting to reach them.

3. Another mistake to avoid so that you stick to your goals and reach what you desire is to set SMART goals. In case you don't know what SMART goals are: they are; S = Specific M = Measurable A = Attainable R = Relevant T = Time-Bound

Specific: Setting a goal such as "I want to make a lot of money" is not specific. You need to set a definite amount that you want to be earning and give it a definite date by which this will happen.

Measurable: means that you will need to be able to keep track of your progress.

Attainable: Be realistic, you cannot expect to be earning $10,000 a week if you are new to internet marketing and are totally unknown online. It takes time and dedicated work to build that type of business.

Relevant: you need to be really committed to the goals you have set for yourself and be willing to do whatever work is required to get there.

Time-bound: Set time frames and deadlines and again see that they are realistic. Work out how much time you have available to work on your internet based business, especially if you are doing it part time and see that you follow through on the time you have committed.

4. Have a goal plan. Have you heard the saying "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail" without a written goal plan you are going to be in trouble before you even begin.

The plan should include your end goal with the steps needed to get there, and see that it is positioned somewhere that you can see it every day.

5. A big mistake made by many people is that they only look at what the end result should be. You have heard the saying "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time". The same applies to your goals, baby steps will get you to your target slowly but surely.

6. Staying motivated: this is one of the hardest things that you can do. When the going gets hard and there don't seem to be any results, you need to remember the reasons why you are building an internet business and what your dreams are. Having a burning desire to achieve a result is a big help so write your reasons down and look at them every day.

Even if things don't go exactly according to plan it is not a reason to give up, just move your goal posts a bit, keep working at your internet based business and with consistent and dedicated work your dreams will be realized.
