Diet Breaks – When Should You Go Off Your Diet?
Diet Breaks When Should You Go Off Your Diet
?
When we go on diets we often like to plan our the whole thing, filling each day with carefully controlled meal plans, estimating how much fat we might lose over the weeks, projecting our plans into the months or even year. However, there are times when you are either forced to take a break from your diet or it might actually be a good idea.
Why might that happen to you, and how should you best react to such an eventuality? In today's article we are going to look a diet breaks, and how if they are approached correctly they may actually be good things.
A forced diet break is very easy to understand. Say you are doing really well, limiting your calories, the pounds are coming off, and suddenly you realize you are flying abroad for a holiday you planned ages ago. What do you do? Clearly you don't cancel the holiday, but you can't really control what you eat when travelling; often you simply have to do your best. At such times, you should take a diet break, which means to simply eat normally, not worrying about calories but seeking to follow basic common sense guidelines about portion size, what you should eat and so forth. Nothing wrong with that.
Sometimes however you might be doing fine but actually benefit from a diet break. Why would this happen? The first benefit is psychological. This gives you a good break from controlling yourself, from restraining yourself, from resisting temptation. By relaxing and enjoying good, healthy food without being overly controlling, you can actually refresh your willpower if you do so purposefully and while observing healthy guidelines.
The second reason is because your body can actually benefit from this. Human bodies adapt to their environments, and everybody has experienced a plateau effect before when dieting. This happens when nothing you do seems to work, when that fat truly becomes stubborn and refuses to budge.
At such times a good break can help change the hormones that are coursing through your body, significantly shifting things around so that when it comes time to diet again your body is once more primed to lose weight.
It really is that simple. A good diet break can actually reset your body, put your hormones back in check and allow your body to relax just before you hit it again with another diet, one that will see once more the great gains of the first time you began.
