Christmas Capers in Cornwall
Christmas is a time for sharing and also a time for caring but do you really want to stay at home having to do many tasks that you do every year like living in your kitchen because you have to cook a family meal or getting jammed in the car parks and doing that last minute dash to get the presents for those you forgot about about in the last minute, yeah of course you don't. How about going somewhere that will be a bit different from the conventional winter. Cornwall is just the place, it is a place that isn't focused on the commercial hype of Christmas and actually has things that will bring the family together.
One of the key things to do is to go to the harbour Mousehole. Now this is a harbour that is considered to be naturally beautiful in its own right but at Christmas it radiants with beauty. From the middle of December to the beginning of the New Year the Harbour is a washed with lights
Share: Here you will see lights of various things like creatures such as serpents and dolphins that come out of the water. Then there are the Christmas related things like Christmas pudding, reindeer and crackers. Then there are old fashioned lanterns that are hung in the lanes and at the harbour walls. There is a carolaire night which features the Mousehole Male Voice Choir and a Brass Band.
Although the temperature isn't hot it is still warm enough to take a stroll down the beach, which Cornwall is well known for its beaches and this time of the year is perfect. With the sun still out, albeit not as much as it is in the summer but you can still do a lot of beach activities on the beach. It is a good for photographers and those who like to marvel at the landscapes as the beaches have wonderful views as you look towards Land's End which is the most extreme westerly point of Mainland England and the the extremely south westerly point of the British mainland. You can also see views of the Lizard Peninsula as well. What can be better than leaving your Cornwall holiday homes in winter and going to the beach is a warm not cold climate.
If you want to do something that is associated with winter but still don't want the snow that comes along with it, then how about you try your hand at Skiing. At Truro's Lemon Quay is the home to the first ever UK city centre ski slope. The thing about the Ski slope is that it is by the city centre and is right next to the shopping centre so if you do fancy a bit of shopping then you can.
Share: There are other things you can do such as going to a few winter the festivals that are put on from early November and have different themes between them. One of them is at Truro and features a paper lantern processional and fireworks to bring in the New Year.
Being that it that Christmas time people like to have Christmas pudding how about forgoing the brandy butter/cream and go for some good ol fashioned Cornish Clotted Cream. This is an thick cream that is rich with flavour that is also a protected designation of origin of European Union. Which means that it must be made from Cornish milk and have a minimum fat content of 55%.
Cornwall is a great place to stay all year round and Christmas time is no exception, it will make a change if you are from the UK from the normal cold winters that you are use to and if you aren't will from Britain it will show some the best that it has to offer.
