Chiropractor Plano Tx | The Basics Of Weight Loss
Even with all the research and all the products available
, nothing is particularly complicated about weight loss. To lose weight, you must take in fewer calories than you expend. The problem isn't the math; the problem lies in the fact that people are really geared towards acquiring and keeping energy reserves in the form of fat.
We are no longer leading a lifestyle that involves being out in the field all day long. We now live in an increasingly sedentary age, and this means that we don't have the same opportunities to burn calories that our ancestors did.
Additionally, we process our foods to the point of exhaustion. Since nutritionally depleted foods store better and longer, we remove most of the nutrients initially and then add them back in when we are ready to bring them to market.
We are faced with the need to rethink how we eat, what we eat, and how we live.
The Optimal Diet
The best diet for maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one rich in whole grains, full of fresh fruits and vegetables and low in meat and fats; the exception being heart healthy fats, monounsaturated, or from vegetal sources. One of the cultures that has managed to maintain this kind of eating is that of the Mediterranean region.
In the Mediterranean, people eat lots of grains, seasonal fruits, and many vegetables. Their foods are full of olive oil and seafood. Meat is rarely consumed, sweets tend to be fruit-based, and walking everywhere is normal. Emulating this lifestyle is a great way to get healthier and to lose weight.
Making Diet Changes Gradually
First and foremost, remember that you didn't gain weight in a matter of a few days, and you are not going to lose it that quickly either. Achieving and maintaining weight loss takes work. Start by making small changes, switching to whole grain breads and pastas, or eliminating soda from your diet. Add some form of exercise such as a 30-minute walk to your day.
Once you have succeeded in maintaining your new habits for a couple of weeks, add another small change. You can chose to eat fruit for desert rather than a sugar based sweet or switch to using only olive oil instead of other less healthy fats. Remember, slow and steady is the only way to win this race.
Get the Weight Loss Support You Need
Because weight loss is so difficult developing a support network is important. If you are someone who works best with groups, consider joining a weight loss support group. If you do best with a single source of support, get a weight loss buddy. Emotional support in this kind of long term venture is critical for success.
Don't overlook the support you can get from your doctor either. Your doctor is a great source for information, encouragement, and assistance. Many doctors can help you find a nutritionist that will provide you with recipes and suggestions to make your transition easier. Over time, with the right support and lifestyle changes, you will garner the rewards of your dedication.
