Cheap Holidays in the Dominican Republic

For a trip abroad that includes plenty of sun, sand and crystal clear Caribbean Sea holidaymakers should head to the Dominican Republic. One of two Caribbean islands to contain two nation's Hispanola is the second largest of all the Caribbean Island's and the Dominican Republic on the eastern half of the Island is one of the world's top destinations providing excellent and relatively cheap holidays. The eastern half of the island is known for having miles of pristine white sandy beaches and some of the best golf courses around as well as Santo Domingo, the largest island capital in the Caribbean.

The southeast of the island is popular among visitors who mostly stay on the pristine coastline around Punta Cana and Bavaro. Punta Cana has shoreline stretching for about thirty miles and bordered by the island's prime real estate, both private residences and large hotels and resorts. Most of the south eastern coast has succumbed to large and luxurious all inclusive resorts and can at times feel a little like being on one of the usual Spanish island holidays. However an encounter with the warm hearted locals beneath the bright Caribbean skies will serve as a quick reminder that that is not the case.

The Costa Coribe Coral hotel is a great all inclusive for holidaymakers looking to be close to the shoreline. The hotel is on the beach so guests can be sunbathing within moments of leaving their rooms. Alternatively holidaymakers can take a walk in the subtropical gardens that surround the hotel before heading back in for a tasty meal. Guests can choose from garden view rooms or have balconies with views out over the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Holidaymakers that want to get out of the shadows of their hotels can make the short trip north to the as yet untouched beaches of El Macao and Uvero Alto. The south coast also has plenty of other opportunities for days out and excursions including visits to the Parque Nacional Los Haitises. The park is mainly mangrove swamps containing a large amount of marine life and over 100 species of Birds. Within the boundaries of the park there are some 90 Taino caves showcasing the heritage of the ancient peoples who were all but wiped out by European settlers to the island.

Another good excursion when travelling to the south east of the island is the capital Santo Domingo, the first island capital in the Caribbean. The capital is a sprawling metropolis of over 2 million which can come as something of a surprise considering it is on an island. For lovers of all things historical a trip to the Zona Colonial is generally the best place to see such wonders as the Catedral Santa Maria, the oldest in the western hemisphere. A trip to the Plaza de la Cultura will bring holidaymakers to the city's large museums and the beautiful National theatre. Because holidaymakers can enjoy a mini city break along with their beachside fun cheap flights to the Dominican Republic are well worth the money.
