Are you making the most of your summer snaps?

During summer you have no doubt captured some exciting moments on your camera as you and your friends and family are out and about in the sunshine. Taking photographs on our phones and digital cameras has become so casual and second nature to us that we often forget that we have whole albums dedicated to the season.
You will have albums of the kids licking their ice creams (or even better, feeding them to the dog), picnics on the beach, summer holidays and all the lovely outdoor weddings you attended or were a part of. If they're lucky, these bright and fun snaps might make it to your social networking profile, but there are more exciting things you can do with these photos rather than letting them languish on the hard drive waiting to be accidentally deleted.
Make a trendy canvas for the lounge
Share: You don't have to take part in expensive family photo shoots at your local studio in order to get that brilliant shot for the lounge, so here's a tip on how to make your own. Natural shots work best, for example your children running happily on the beach. Ensure the picture you have taken is not too blurry - it is best to use one that you took on a digital camera rather than on a camera phone. This is to avoid distortion or pixelation when you enlarge the photograph.
Get your hands on some photo-editing software. There are plenty of design suite packages available on the market, but if you're only going to be using it the odd time, then there are ways of making sure you don't part with any money. There are several photo-editing websites that allow you to make the basic changes, for instance red eye removal, brightness adjustment, conversion to black and white etc.
Adjust the contrast of your image: not so much that it distorts the image, but enough to make the shapes and colours brighter and more defined. That's your professional' photo done. Now you send it to a company that will blow it up and pop it onto a canvas for you. And there you have it a professional looking canvas image capturing a beautiful summer moment that you took yourself.
Brighten up a dull, grey workplace
It's a gloomy winter morning and you're sat at your desk at work. With a massive workload. And a cold. A picture of a happy summer scene might be just the thing to cheer you up! Take your best photos and turn them into practical and useful stationery that will brighten up your workspace. You could have a mouse mat with your dog splashing in the sea, or a mug with your toddlers in their sunhats and novelty sunglasses, beaming into the camera.
Share: Turn wedding pictures into a photobook
Weddings are a great opportunity to get some family snaps, as they are one of the rare occasions when you can get everyone together in the same room. There is nothing like looking through memorable images in a photo album. But there is something better.
Photobooks allow for photos to be presented on hard-wearing pages without them constantly falling out and getting dog-eared. What is more, you can personalise them with short bits of text to describe the pictures, the occasion and the date of the event. It beats scribbling Olivia & Alex's Wedding, 2010' etc. on the back of every photograph! Why not create some accompanying mini photobooks to share with friends and family as gifts?
