4 Of The Best Tourist Attractions The Uk Has To Offer This Summer

The summer is finally here in the UK. We've had the lead up in recent months with the excitement of the 2010 World Cup and Wimbledon and now it's time to start relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather.

That is, unless you can't sit still for more than a few minutes at a time and if this is the case, take a look through these 4 tourist attractions that the UK has to offer which will make the summer of 2010 one of the most memorable.

1. Alton Towers - one of the most visited theme parks in the whole of Europe, Alton Towers is only second in the UK in terms of annual visitors to Pleasure Beach Blackpool.

Opened in 1980, whereas some theme parks cater almost solely for thrill seekers or young children, Alton Towers is one of those parks that is particularly family orientated, having something for everyone. 4 Of The Best Tourist Attractions The Uk Has To Offer This Summer

Plus, with a whole host of restaurants, a water park and two hotels - one of which is a themed hotel - even if you're not into rides, a visit to Alton Towers is definitely recommended this summer.

2. London Eye - when it was opened in March 2000, the London Eye was the tallest Ferris wheel anywhere in the world.

Standing at 443 feet tall, whilst it has been overtaken in height several times over the past decade (most recently by the Singapore Flyer in 2006), it still remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK and a notable part of the London skyline.

And a quick tip before you head to the London Eye - buy your tickets in advance, otherwise you could end up waiting several hours in a queue.

3. Leeds / Reading - although the most popular of all of the UK festivals has already taken place (Glastonbury saw over 175,000 people attend between 23rd and 28h June), there are still several great festivals to enjoy this summer.

And whilst people may rave about the likes of V Festival or some of newer but smaller regional festivals, not many can compare to the Leeds / Reading Festivals, particularly if you're into rock and alternative music.

Taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the same bands play at each festival, just on a different day and in recent years, people to headline the main stage have included Radiohead, The Killers and Muse.

4. Edinburgh Festival - reputedly the largest cultural and arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh Festival takes place all throughout August and rather than relating to just one festival, it is an umbrella term encompassing over a dozen different festivals.

Starting off in 1947 as the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), the event has grown and grown over the years and now features a whole range of attractions for people of all ages and interests to attend, such as the Comedy Festival, which seems world famous comics work alongside up and coming comedians, showcasing the comedic talents to the thousands of people regularly in the audience.
