"spice Isle" Prepares To Receive More North American Tourists On Grenada Holidays

On Tuesday 15th November, Grenadas minister of tourism

, Peter David, announced that Caribbean Airlines (CAL) will begin operating a new route between Canada and Grenada starting 15th December 2011. Canadian holidaymakers planning Grenada holidays in the near future will be pleased to know that the airline is offering a new direct flight between the two destinations.

The new twice a week service will depart from Trinidad and Tobagos Piarco International airport and will call at the Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada before continuing non-stop to Toronto. The return flight will arrive first in Grenada before its final landing in Trinidad and Tobago, thus offering a very convenient and direct non-stop route between Toronto and Grenada.

Mr David also took the opportunity to confirm new winter chartered flights from two other airlines. Air Canada will begin its five month annual winter schedule, with new flights to Grenada from Canada starting from December 24th 2011 through to April 24th 2012. Additionally, Toronto based Sunswing Airlines is set to operate a weekly chartered flight taking its passengers to holidays in Grenada from December 14th 2011 to January 11th 2012.

On the prospective uplift in tourism from North America to the island, Mr David noted that, Our regional neighbours benefit tremendously from the Canadian market and increase airlift between Grenada and Canada has always been a priority for us... the onus is for us to now increase our marketing drive to make maximum use of what the Canadian market can offer.

During Grenada holidays, tourists have a never ending list of things to see and do. The rainforests, waterfalls and powdery white sand beaches make for the quintessential Caribbean luxury holiday. Diving is a must activity to be experienced while enjoying holidays in Grenada. Beneath the crystal clear waters lie coral reefs bursting with a kaleidoscope of colour and an abundance of marine life. Alternatively, holidaymakers can take a tour of the River Antoine Rum Distillery or experience a day in a nutmeg plantation. Known for its production and export of the fragrant spice, the south eastern Caribbean island is often referred to as the spice isle.

Various festivals and carnivals take place in Grenada during the winter time providing ample opportunity for travellers to experience the authentic island life. The Grenada sailing festival in January and the Carriacou Carnival in February are just a few of the events taking place during the winter season. The tranquil picturesque atmosphere provided by any of the luxurious Grenada hotels, such as the Spice Isle Beach Resort in Grand Anse Beach or the Calabash Hotel and Villas in L Anse Aux Espines, would be the perfect place to unwind after an activity filled day.
