Congress General Secretary, Shri Rahul Gandhi formally inaugurated India's 6th FDDI Centre at Fursatganj in Raebareli, UP. He also laid the foundation for construction of a 250 bed girls' hostel. He also undertook a plantation drive to commemorate the occasion.

Interacting with young students on the occasion, Youth Icon Rahul Gandhi gave a call to the youth of the country to come forward and take the country on the pinnacle of progress and development. Congress General Secretary stated that India will very soon become a leading nation in the globe on the basis of the power of youth of India. This leading status in the comity of nations will be achieved in merely 5 years, he further pointed out. Shri Gandhi said that the Central Government was taking key steps in this direction. Universal Literacy mission in the country was one such important step to achieve the goal, he said.

He urged the youth to continue the pursuit of national development together with their studies and asked them to come forward and contribute in politics. On being queried by a girl student, Vartika Jain about Shri Gandhi's views on the youth of India, Congress General Secretary replied that in his opinion the youth of the country will be major contributors in building a developed India. He pointed out that India was the second fasted growing economy in the world and with its rapid progress, India shall become the fasted developing nation in coming 4-5 years. He said that today China was known for its manufacturing strength and India was known for its strength in the services sector. But very soon India will be known also for its manufacturing prowess, he said. Another student, Anil Verma voiced his concern about the high cost of education in FDDI and other centres of higher education and asked Shri Gandhi about the initiatives of the government in this direction for the students from lower income groups. Answering the query, Congress General Secretary stated that each one has the right to get educated and the Central Government was establishing educational institutions to fulfill this objective. Educational loans from banks were available for the needy to study in technical institutes, he said."Youth will take the country forward" Rahul Gandhi


On the occasion, businessmen from the leather sector proposed that a Leather Complex be opened up in the vicinity of the world class Leather Institute. Appreciating the suggestion, Congress General Secretary asked for a detailed proposal and informed them that the Commerce and Industry Ministry has already issued directions to establish an International Design Studio within next 6 months in the campus and setting up Workers Training Centre. Shri Rahul Gandhi also visited the Retail Management Lab in the campus and interacted with the students there.

Shri Rahul Gandhi also interacted with business leaders after the meeting. Those present in the meeting included President FDDI Shri Rafeeq Ahmed, Chairman CLE Shri Habib Hussain, among others.

It was informed by the officials of the Institute that around 40-45% of the students were from Raebareli Amethi and the rest belonged to different parts of the country. The Institute has already designed and made shoes for Indian soldiers in Siachen which can sustain extreme cold temperatures to the extent of -65'C.

A cultural programme was also organized by the students for the visiting dignitaries.
