Iran Tour This unprecedented, 10,000 square-foot exhibition presents a dazzling array of historic objectsmany of which have never been seen outside of Chinain carefully recreated settings. Visitors can experience a recreated throne room, a banquet setting, an imperial wife's chamber, and the private study of the emperor. Brief video presentations, a scale model of the Forbidden City, theatrical lighting techniques, and authentic music complement the presentation of the objects.

Featured are rare works in jade, cloisonn, and ceramic; imperial dragon robes of silk; armor and weapons used by Qianlong; golden religious statuary; and a selection of some of the most important and famous paintings produced during the Qing dynasty. Splendors of China's Forbidden City uses these objects to break new ground, exploring themes such as the role of women in the palace, the issue of Manchu ethnicity, and the diversity of religions in China in the eighteenth century.

It is recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world (the other four are the Palace of Versailles in France, Buckingham Palace in the UK, the White House in the US and the Kremlin in Russia). The splendid architecture of the Forbidden City represents the essence and culmination of traditional Chinese architectural accomplishment.

In 1961 the Forbidden City was listed as one of the important historical monuments under the special preservation by the Chinese central government and, in 1987, it was nominated as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The Palace Museum is a real treasure house of Chinese cultural and historical relics.
