Cheltenham Festival 2011 Guide - Day One 1:30 – Stan James Supreme Novices´ Hurdle Grade 1 2m110yCue Card is a worthy favourite judged on his hurdles form to date but whether he is good value at 9-4 in a contest such as this is another matter. A scintillating winner of the Champion Bumper at the Festival last season, he found only Menorah too strong in the International Hurdle over course and distance in December and if he is in...more
Cheltenham Festival 2011 Guide - Day Two 2:05 Neptune Investment Management Novices´ Hurdle (Registered As Baring Bingham Novices´ Hurdle) Grade 1 2m5fOscars Well, trained by Jessica Harrington, is the general 9-2 favourite and fully deserves that title having landed back-to-back Grade 1 wins in Ireland over the past three months. He is an individual full of class and looked a star in the making after his most recent win in February. This race, however, is likely to be a much tougher assignment and his price is too short in the circumstances. Bobs Worth, whose trainer Nicky Henderson has poor record in the race, is outright second favourite at 5-1. He showed a good attitude to get the better of Rock On Ruby over course and distance at the end of January and looks to be progressive. Rock On Ruby, trained by Paul Nicholls, is worth another chance following his aforementioned defeat and will improve with more experience over hurdles. However, the form of the race in which they came to the fore is dubious and should be treated with caution. Take them on with So Young, a French-bred five-year-old trained by Willie Mullins. So Young, a winner of both his races in Ireland...more

Cheltenham Festival 2011 Guide - Day Four 1:30 JCB Triumph Hurdle Grade 1 2m1fNicky Henderson won this race last year with Simon Munir's Soldatino and the pair are responsible for this season's ante-post favourite, Grandouet. He took a while to acclimatise to British racing but has improved with each run and has won his last two races, both with the minimum of fuss. He is only 6-1 at the moment and there is surely more value to be had elsewhere. The Dermot Weld-trained Unaccompanied bolted up in Ireland last time and was subsequently promoted to the top of the market at around 6-1. It was a smart performance but her trainer has a shocking record at the Festival and that fact alone is enough to be put off. Both Sam Winner (9-1) and Smad Place (10-1) were beaten into third and fourth respectively by Marsh Warbler (14-1) in the Grade 1 Coral Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in December, with Houbloun Des Obeaux (20-1) taking second. The form of that is likely to be represented strongly in this race but it may be worth leaving that formline alone, as it was run in heavy ground. Houbloun Des Obeaux followed up at Haydock in Doncaster, beating the Colin...more
